Abstract: Early activity is vital for ICU patients' functional recovery. However, these patients face unique challenges, including acute physiological disorders, sedation and analgesia, and impaired capacity for autonomous decision-making, which render their ability to engage in active participation lower than that of general ward patients. Yet, their engagement such as knowledge, skills, confidence, and willingness remains key to initiating and sustaining mobilization. This review examines the concept, significance, influencing factors, assessment tools, and intervention strategies for engagement in ICU early activity, aiming to inform personalized programs.
