Practical exploration on the construction of a pediatric Traditional Chinese Medicine specialized nursing outpatient clinic in a county-level Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital

Abstract: Objective: To explore the construction practice and methods of a pediatric Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) specialized nursing outpatient clinic in a county-level TCM hospital, and to provide a replicable practice pathway for improving pediatric TCM nursing service capacity in grassroots county-level hospitals. Methods: Since launching the pediatric TCM specialized nursing outpatient clinic in 2018, a county-level TCM hospital in Anhui province has continuously refined its management system and operational model. Through the empowerment provided by the renowned nurse studios, a stepped training pathway was established for nurse cultivation. Meanwhile, a one-stop intelligent nursing model was adopted to provide TCM appropriate techniques for children in the county area. Results: From 2020 to 2025, pediatric TCM specialized nursing outpatient clinic has provided 16 types of TCM suitable techniques, such as pediatric massage and acupoint application, with an average annual outpatient volume of 29,300. The patient satisfaction rate increased from 90.10% to 96.70%. Conclusion: The construction of a pediatric TCM specialized nursing outpatient clinic in a county-level hospital, can effectively expand the scope of TCM nursing services, enhance the health service capacity for children at the county level, and provide referable experience for the development of pediatric TCM specialized nursing outpatient clinics at the grassroots level.
