Abstract: Objective: To investigate the current situation of clinical nurses' practice of arterial blood gas analysis procedure in children. Methods: From July 2 to August 31, 2019, a self-designed questionnaire was conducted to investigate the practice status of arterial blood gas analysis procedure among pediatric nurses in 17 tertiary grade A medical institutions nationwide. Results: A total of 1518 questionnaires were retrieved. Totally 67.7% nurses used the professional arterial blood collection device for blood collection, 74.4% nurses preferred the radial artery as the puncture site, 127 (8.4%) nurses suffered needle stick injuries during arterial blood gas analysis procedures in the past year. Conclusion: The standardization of arterial blood gas analysis procedure are necessary. Clinical nurse managers should strengthen the training of arterial blood gas analysis operation knowledge and skills to improve the success rate of arterial blood sampling and ensure the accuracy of detection results.
