The current situation and influencing factors of nurses turnover intentions in China

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the turnover intention and influencing factors of nurses. Methods: A total of 63 947 nurses were selected by convenience sampling method and surveyed by the Turnover Intention Questionnaires. Results: The score of nurses' turnover intention was 13.93±4.21. Over 50% of nurses have a high turnover intention. The influencing factors were education, kind and level of hospital, job title, nursing history, working hours per week, the number of night shifts per month, the form of night shift and department were the impact factors of nurses’ turnover intention, which could explain 35.4% of the total variation. The Nurses suggested to improve their salaries, provide them more respects and reduce their workloads. Conclusion: The turnover intention of nurses is at a high level, especially in the nurses with young age, working in intensive care unit or emergency department, and working at low level hospitals which are undergoing transformation. It is suggested that nurse managers pay more attention to the nurses, and take effective measures to enhance nurses' satisfaction and minimize the turnover of nurses.
