Abstract: Objective: To development and test the motivation questionnaire for intestinal stoma patients' health promotion behaviors. Methods: Based on the self-determination theory, the initial scale was formulated by literature analysis, group discussion, two rounds of Delphi expert consultations, and pilot-testing. A convenience sample of 206 intestinal stoma patients were selected to examine the reliability and validity of the scale. Results: The scale consisted of 4 subscales and 12 items. The Cronbach's α coefficient of scale was 0.802, and the test-retest reliability was 0.791. The exploratory factor analysis extracted 4 common factors including external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation and intrinsic regulation, and the cumulative variance contribution rate of the 4 factors was 85.941%. Conclusion: The questionnaire has good reliability and validity. It can be used as a tool to evaluate the motivation orientation of health promotion behavior for intestinal stoma patients.
