Abstract: Objective: To translate the Nursing Incivility Scale (NIS) into Chinese, and test its reliability and validity. Methods: Based on the Brislin translation model, NIS was localized through the process of forward and backward translation, cultural adjustment and preliminary investigation. Totally 473 clinical nurses from 3 tertiary grade A hospitals in Zaozhuang and Changsha were investigated through convenience sampling for test the reliability and validity of Chinese version of NIS. Results: The Chinese version of NIS consisted of 5 dimensions and 43 items. The items analysis indicated that the critical ratio was more than 3.0 and the correlation coefficients between the items and the total score were 0.357-0.805 (P<0.01). Seven common factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 76.881%. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that χ2/df=1.656, RMSEA=0.054, RMR=0.063, CFI=0.942, TLI=0.936, IFI=0.942 and SRMR=0.051. The average content validity of the Chinese version of NIS was 0.969, the content validity of each item ranged from 0.778 to 1.000. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the overall scale was 0.972, with ranging from 0.885-0.962 for each dimension. The test-retest reliability was 0.933, and the split-half reliability was 0.909. Conclusion: The Chinese version of NIS is a good reliable and valid tool to measure workplace incivility experienced in Chinese nurses.
