Abstract: Objective: To retrieve, evaluate and summarize the evidence of External Ventricular Drain (EVD) management and provide a reference for a better protocol of EVD management. Methods: We systematically searched databases and websites for evidence on EVD management. The retrieval time limit was from the database construction to November 30, 2022. There were 4 researchers who evaluated the quality of the literature, and extracted recommendations and research conclusions from the included literature. Results: Totally 8 articles were involved, including 3 guidelines, 2 expert consensuses, 3 systematic reviews. Finally, 21 pieces of best evidence were summarized, about assessment and record, key points of EVD manipulation, cerebrospinal fluid sampling, treatment of clamping and disconnecting drainage tube, position change, intrahospital transportation, EVD removal, management and training. Conclusion: The study summarizes the evidence of external ventricular drain management. It is recommended for health professionals to fully consider the clinical situations to develop more detailed personalized drainage management.
