Abstract: Objective: To explore the behavioral intention of ECG monitor alarm management of nurses in neonatology department based on the theory of planned behavior, in order to provide clinical basis for exploring effective ECG monitor alarm management strategies in neonatology department. Methods: The interview outline was formulated according to the theoretical framework of planned behavior, a semi-structured interview was conducted in 13 nurses from neonatology department of a tertiary grade A hospital in Shantou from February to March 2022, and the data were analyzed by Colaizzi seven-step analysis method. Results: Based on the theory of planned behavior, 8 themes were extracted, including positive attitude, negative attitude, group pressure, leadership pressure, patient pressure, knowledge and skills, equipment performance, and workload. Conclusion: Most interviewees hold a positive attitude towards ECG monitoring alarm management, and the alarm management behavior was mainly affected by external pressure from group, leaders and the patients, and there were many obstacles in knowledge and skills, equipment performance and workload. Nursing managers might explore alarm management strategies and implementation plans, to promote the quality of neonatal alarm management.
