Effect of WeChat-based teach-back education on anxiety and depression symptoms in fathers of neonate

Abstract: Objective: To explore the effect of WeChat-based teach-back education on alleviating depression and anxiety in fathers of neonate. Methods: A total of 80 spouses of pregnant women who were registered in one hospital were included from January to April 2020, and the participants were divided into control group and intervention group according to the delivery sequence of maternal births, with 40 cases in each group. Those in the control group were with routine postpartum care, and those in the intervention group were with WeChat-based teach-back education. Anxiety and depression were observed before and after the intervention. Results: There were 36 participants in the control group and 37 in the intervention group completed the investigation. After 6 weeks of intervention, the EPDS score of the control group was 6.31 ± 3.14 and 3.78 ± 2.64 in the intervention group, and the S-AI score was 35.11 ± 7.84 in the control group and 30.65 ± 7.41 in the intervention group, respectively. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: The WeChat-based teach-back education is benefit to reduce the negative psychology, including anxiety and depression of fathers of neonate, which is worthy of promotion in clinical practice.
