Inter-observer and intra-observer reliability of Color Assessment Tool for Continuous Bladder Irrigation Fluid

Abstract: Objective: To test and improve the self-made Color Assessment Tool for Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) Fluid. Methods: The tool was used to observe the color of 16 samples by 12 examiners. The inter-and intra- observer reliability of the tool was tested. Examiners were also asked to complete a satisfaction questionnaire. Results: The inter-observer agreement between examiners was high, and Kendall's W value was 0.971-0.997. Except for the low agreement between the assessed value and the actual value of No.2 color scale with the Weighted Kappa value of 0.375, all the inter-observer agreement among examiners and the agreement between the assessed value and the actual value of color scale and all color scales in different light were high, with Weighted Kappa value 0.727~1.000 (P<0.001). After deleting No.2 color scale, a total of 6 color scales was left. The satisfaction questionnaire showed that importance and simplicity scores were 4.92±0.29 and 4.75±0.45, respectively, indicating general satisfaction with the tool among all examiners. Conclusion: The improved Color Assessment Tool for Continuous Bladder Irrigation Fluid has a good inter-and intra- observer reliability. It is an effective tool to evaluate the color of CBI fluid.
