Abstract: Objective: To analyze the effect of family intervention program based on positive psychology on the mental state and quality of life of prostate cancer patients. Methods: According to the continuous enrollment method, seventy-six patients were recruited from a tumor center. 38 patients were assigned to the intervention group and 38 to the control group. All of the participates received routine health education and the intervention group participated in family intervention based on positive psychology. Acceptance and Action Questionnaire II (AAQ-II), Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Prostate (FACT-P) were assessed before intervention (T1), immediately after the intervention (T2), and one month after the intervention (T3). Results: Sixty-eight patients completed the intervention program and follow-up. At T2, the AAQ-II score of the intervention group was (18.79±5.24), the SCL-90 score was (138.45±10.56), and the FACT-P score was (105.58±11.66). For control group, the scores of AAQ-II, SCL-90 and FACT-P were (21.05±5.19), (142.98±11.63) and (101.20±9.54) respectively. The differences between the scores were statistical significance (P<0.05). At T3, the AAQ-II and SCL-90 scores of intervention group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05) respectively, and FACT-P was higher (P<0.05). The repeated analysis of variance found that the scores of AAQ-II and SCL-90 of the intervention group were significantly improved after the intervention (P<0.05). Covariance analysis found that after excluding the time effect, the intervention program could significantly decrease the patient's AAQ-II and SCL-90 scores, and increase the patient's score of FACT-P (P<0.05). Conclusion: The family intervention based on positive psychology can improve the mental status and quality of life of prostate cancer patients. It is necessary for medical staff to provide psychological support for patients with prostate cancer during treatment.
