Abstract: Ankle pump exercise is an important part of early rehabilitation after surgery. It can prevent the formation of deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremities. However, the evidence showed that the procedures on routine ankle pump exercise has not been standardized. This article discussed the significance, mechanism, details, clinical applications, implementational obstacles and strategies in conducting the ankle pump exercise. In summary, we expected to establish a refined and standardized ankle pump exercise strategy to assist patients' rehabilitation.
