Abstract: Objective: To analyze the application effect of Healthcare Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (HFMEA) in the management of routine pathological specimens in the operating room. Methods: Established a HFMEA work team to identify topic, make work flow chart, find out the potential failure mode in routine pathological specimens management in the operating room, and analyze the reasons, develop action plan and implementation. Results: The quality indexes of specimen management (specimen confirmation specification compliance rate, accuracy rate of intra operative specimen temporary storage, accuracy of specimen registration, the qualified rate of inspection specimen) were significantly improved, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.001). Conclusion: The application of HFMEA to the management of routine pathological specimens in the operating room can effectively guarantee the safety of pathological specimens and improve the quality of nursing in the operating room.
