Effects of "Dancing for Birth" on postpartum depression in multiparous women with advanced maternal age

Abstract: Objective: To study the effect of "Dancing for Birth" on postpartum depression in multiparous women with advanced maternal age. Methods: Convenience sampling was used in this study. Totally 206 multiparous women with advanced maternal age were randomly divided into two groups, 100 participants were assigned to experimental group, and 106 participants in the control group. The participants in the control group were with ordinary health education, routine labor process and postpartum follow-up. Those in the experimental group participated in the birth dance course from the 28th week of pregnancy to 6 weeks after delivery. The Edinburgh postpartum depression scale was used to assess the depression of participants at the 10th day and the 6th week after delivery. Results: The score and incidence of depression for those in the experimental group were lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The "Dancing for Birth" is benefit to decrease the postpartum depression in multiparous women with advanced maternal age, and it is worthy of clinical application.
