The development and evaluation of the tibial fracture simulation based on Standardized Patients

Abstract: Objective: To develop and evaluate the tibial fracture simulation based on Standardized Patients. Methods: Based on Jeffries theory, a tibial fracture simulation based on Standardized Patient was designed according to the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) standards of best practice. The simulation was run among 150 nursing undergraduates of grade 2016 and 2017 in our school, and evaluated by them using Simulation Design Scale (SDS) and the Debriefing Assessment for Simulation in Healthcare (DASH). Results: The scores of SDS and DASH were 4.47-4.62 and 6.25-6.53 respectively, which were in a high level. Conclusion: The tibial fracture simulation based on Standardized Patients is feasible in the teaching of undergraduate nursing students and the evaluation results are good.
