Evidence integration of non-surgical prevention strategies for lymphedema related to breast cancer

Abstract: Objective: To systematically search and synthesize the evidence of non-surgical prevention strategies for breast cancer related lymphedema to provide references for prevention of lymphedema related to breast cancer. Methods: The evidence integration process was guided by the Johns Hopkins evidence practice model, which including systematically reference search, quality appraisal and evidence formulation. Results: Totally 23 articles were finally included. Six dimensional evidence was synthesized including quality and requirements of medical staff, roles of patients and their care givers, risks identification, symptoms reorganization, regular monitoring, and prevention strategies implementation. Conclusion: The prevention strategies were synthesized based on evidence, which can be the references for the clinical decision-making, prevention strategies, and clinical practice. However, health professionals should make their own judgements when using the evidence. Hopefully the best evidence can be used to prevent the lymphedema related to breast cancer.
