Abstract: Objective: to compare the needs perceived by family members and nurses caring the critically ill children in PICU. Methods: A total of 150 family members and 52 nurses were recruited from April to August 2019 and administered with the Chinese version of the Critical Care Family Needs Inventory (CCFNI) and sociodemographic data questionnaire. The results were analyzed. Results: There were significant differences in terms of the total score and score in each dimension which demonstrated different needs perceived by the family members and nurses (P<0.01). The needs perceived by family members and nurses ranging from high to low were consistent, including condition assurance, being close to patients, accessing information, comforting family members and support from professionals. The most significant needs perceived by family members was "communicating with doctors every day", while the most significant needs perceived by nurses was "providing the best treatment for patients". Conclusion: The needs perceived by family members were different from that perceived by nurses caring the critically ill children in PICU. Family-centered nursing intervention are supposed to be implemented with full consideration of the needs assessment of children's families.
