The role of the National Metabolic Management Center in management of blood glucose and dietary behaviorin patients with type 2 diabetes

Abstract: Objective: To explore the effects of National Metabolic Management Center (MMC) in management of blood glucose and dietary behavior in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: Records of 1594 patients who entered the MMC of a Grade III Level A hospital in Shanghai from June 2017 to April 2020 were reviewed. These patients were regularly followed by the center for a year. The blood glucose level after 1 year was observed. The effects on dietary behavior were also observed. Results: After 1 year of MMC management, the blood glucose, blood pressure, triglycerides and cholesterol level of patients decreased significantly compared with baseline (P<0.05). Patients significantly changed their daily vegetable and fruit intake behavior and daily vegetable intake behavior than baseline (P<0.05). Conclusion: MMC management can effectively improve the blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, and the Center can help patients better establish healthy diabetes eating behaviors.
