Establishment and operation of outpatient specialized nursing studios: a survey from Beijing municipal hospitals

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the establishment and operation status of outpatient specialized nursing studios in Beijing municipal hospitals, so as to provide information for improving management. Methods: A convenient sampling of 40 outpatient specialized nursing studios approved in 2019 and 2020 was surveyed using a self-designed questionnaire, covering 22 municipal hospitals in Beijing. Results: The 40 nursing studios involved in the survey can be divided into three major categories: therapeutic treatment, health consulting and rehabilitation training. About 15.0% of their leaders had master's degrees and 22.5% had full-time jobs. There were 35 nursing studios with interdisciplinary cooperation, and nutrition medicine, psychological medicine, pharmacy are the top three. Up to now, 75.0% of the leaders and visiting nurses still did not have performance bonus, but 70.0% of leaders called for corresponding medical service fees to be charged. In addition, the operational effectiveness of the studio was remarkable on the workload, talent training, teaching achievements and scientific research output. Conclusion: The studio has rich professional categories, distinctive features and remarkable advantages in operation mechanism, which has a good prospect. However, it still needs further improvement in performance assessment, personnel assessment, benefit evaluation, service extension and other fields.
