Investigation of clinical nurses' attitudes and willingness on part-time nursing position

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the clinical nurses' attitudes and willingness on part-time position for new nurses, and to provide references for the formulation of policies with part-time nursing positions. Method: A questionnaire survey was conducted in 163 new nurses and 145 other part-time nurses in a hospital in Beijing. Results: Totally 59 (36.2%) and 78 (47.9%) new nurses, 62 (42.8%) and 61 (42.1%) other part-time nurses expressed strong supports and supports for the establishment of part-time position for new nurses. The awareness of benefits with part-time nursing positions for new nurses included improving nursing skills, increasing income, and promoting the effective use of human resources, and the awareness of disbenefits included affecting the quality of nursing care and increasing workload. Totally 119(73.0%) new nurses expressed willingness to participate in part-time work. The score of the current situation and prospect of part-time nursing position for new nurses were over 8. Conclusion: Clinical nurses generally hold a positive attitude towards part-time nursing positions. In order to promote the healthy development of part-time nursing position for new nurses, it's necessary to clarify the duties, admission qualification, evaluation standards and salary system for part-time nurses, and to establish an independent assessment mechanism.
