Abstract: Objective: To understand the incidence and severity of Medical Device Related Pressure Ulcers (MDRPU) in adult patients of Emergency Intensive Care Units (EICU) so as to provide references for the prevention and better nursing of MDRPU. Methods: Adult patients admitted to EICUs of three grade-A hospitals in Beijing from September 2017 to February 2018 were surveyed to collect information on their demographics, diseases, and medical device disposal they received and the way to assess pressure ulcers. Results: The incidence of MDRPU in adult EICU patients mainly occurred in the first stage of pressure score (18 patients, 56.3%) and mostly in the head (34 sites, 82.93%). The initial diagnosis for admission, pressure ulcer risk patients, their respiratory patterns, surgery and the number of medical equipment used on them were the influencing factors of MDRPU. Conclusion: The incidence of MDRPU in adult EICU patients is relatively high. It is recommended that more attention should be attached to MDRPU in the future nursing work and special protection be offered to population with high-risks in order to reduce the suffering of patients, and improve the quality of medical services.
