Abstract: Objective: To analyze the effects of cosmetic interventions in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: Totally 80 patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy were included by convenience sampling from Sept. 2017 to Feb. 2018 in a hospital in Tianjin. The patients were divided into the intervention group and the control group according to the time of admission. The patients in the control group were with routine care, while the patients in intervention group were with make-up and cosmetic and routine care. The chemotherapy induced alopecia distress, medical copying models and quality of life were compared between the two groups. Results: The score of confrontation dimension and the total score of quality of life in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05); the scores of chemotherapy induced alopecia distress and avoidance coping in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the dimensions of physical distress and avoidance between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: Cosmetic intervention can effectively improve the patient’ chemotherapy induced alopecia distress, guide their positive coping modes, ease the avoidance coping style, and ultimately improve the quality of life.
