The unique role of nursing in the prevention and control of Multidrug-Resistant Organism

Abstract: The prevalence of Multidrug-Resistant Organism (MDRO) brings a severe challenge to medical quality and patient safety. The core measures to prevent and control the spread of MDROs include contact precaution and antibiotic stewardship, in which nurses play an important role. Nursing staff is an important practitioner of infection prevention and control. Nursing staff can effectively reduce MDRO infection and cololnization by implement MDROs prevention and control best practices. Focusing on catheter care, precontact isolation measures, proactive screening, and evidence-based best practice care can further reduce catheter-related infections and effectively reduce MDRO infection and cololnization. In this case, nursing administrators should guide and support nursing staff to give full play to their unique role in prevention and control of MDROs, implement MDRO infection prevention and control measures, actively participate in antibiotic stewardship, implement continuous monitoring to comply with the compliance, evaluation MDRO prevention and control effects, and explore effective strategies to prevent and control MDROs in China.
