A review of Simulated Presence Therapy applied to dementia patients with agitation

Abstract: With the aggravation of the aging situation in China, the incidence of dementia in the aged has increased year by year. The treatment and management of its symptoms is receiving increasing attention. In the middle and late stages of dementia process, agitation behavior occurs in 18%-87% of patients with dementia. Simulated Presence Therapy, as a non-pharmacological intervention, has been applied to patients with dementia, which could reduce or alleviate its agitation. This article reviews the current application and its effects of Simulated Presence Therapy in patients with dementia, aiming to provide reference for future intervention research in our country.
