Abstract: Objective: To explore the relationship between nurse manpower allocation indicators and patients' safety outcomes, in order to provide reference for the construction of a reasonable and efficient human resource allocation system for nurses in the future. Methods: The data of all patients and registered nurses recruited by a tertiary A hospital in Jiangsu province from 2019 to 2023 were collected and retrospectively analyzed. Canonical correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between nurse manpower allocation indicators and patients' safety outcomes. Results: From 2019 to 2023, an overall upward trend was observed according to analysis of the nurse manpower allocation indicators, while data of the incidence of adverse nursing events and injury rates showed an overall downward trend. Canonical correlation analysis demonstrated that nurse manpower allocation indicators were strongly correlated with patients' safety outcomes (r=0.980, P<0.05). Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between nurse manpower allocation and patients' safety outcomes. Namely, the more adequate and rational nurse manpower allocation is, the better patients' safety outcomes will be. Strategies to improve patients' safety outcomes can be explored from the aspects of quantity and structural allocation of nurse human resources.
