Application of the whole-process risk assessment and the early warning intervention in the prevention management of patients' loss in psychiatric departments

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the effects of whole-process risk assessment and early warning intervention in the prevention management of patients' loss in psychiatric departments. Methods: In 2017, the missing risk early warning assessment record form was used for inpatients' loss risk assessment, and the specific patients loss prevention management strategy in the psychiatric department was employed, including risk assessment in the whole process, early warning interventions, immediate evaluation of intervention effects and monitoring the risk-prone section closely. The incidence of patients' loss in 2017 was compared with that in 2016 when there was no preventive intervention. Results: After the application, the total incidence of psychiatric inpatients' loss was significantly reduced (P<0.01), especial the incidence of loss in the blocking wards was reduced significantly (P<0.05). The nurses' satisfaction with the missing risk early warning assessment record forms was increased significantly (P<0.001). Conclusion: The whole-process risk assessment, the early warning interventions and timely assessment of intervention effects make the risk management coherent, and the interventions effectively reduce the initiative loss of psychiatric inpatients and improve the nurses' working efficiency.
