Current status and influencing factors of body image level in patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the current status of body image level in patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and analyze its influencing factors, to provide reference for the implementation of targeted interventions in clinical. Methods: A total of 213 patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome who were admitted to a tertiary hospital in Shanxi province from June 2022 to August 2023 were investigated using the general information questionnaire, Body Image Scale, Type D Personality Scale-14, Self-Objectification Beliefs and Behaviors Scale, and Perceived Social Support Scale. The influencing factors of the patients' body image level were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The body image level score of patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome was 11.00 (8.00, 14.00). Regression analysis showed that age, reproductive history, time spent in magazines and media, BMI, acne rating, Ludwig alopecia grade, mFG body hair score, type D personality, self-objectification beliefs and behaviors, and perceived social support were the influencing factors of the patients' body image level, explaining 73.9% of the total variation. Conclusion: The body image level of patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is at a moderate level, and healthcare professionals should develop targeted intervention strategies to improve the patients' body image status according to their characteristics.
