Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression and influencing factors in an elderly community population. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. A sample of 200 Beijing residents aged 60 and above was recruited and surveyed with Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Demographic data, health status and other associated factors were also examined. Results: The prevalence of depression was 8.3%. Age, self-reported health and emotion conditions, as well as life events were found to be associated with depression in the elderly.
