Investigation on disaster preparedness and its influencing factors of the nursing reserve team in responding to public health emergencies in Shanbei

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the characteristics of disaster preparedness of the nursing reserve team in Yulin, northen Shaanxi, and analyze its influencing factors in responding to disastrous situations. Methods: From July to November 2021, following convenient sampling, a total of 1440 nurses from 37 hospitals in Yulin were enrolled in the current study and completed the Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool. Results: The average score of disaster preparedness among nursing reserve team in Shanbei was 4.42±0.84, and the item which received with the lowest score was "I will be considered as a key leader in my community in disaster situation", while the item which received with the highest score was "I think government support at the national/regional/provincial level is sufficient in disaster relief ". Our findings showed that the main factors that influenced the level of disaster preparedness of nurses were multifactorial, including the title of the nurses, and whether they received training on knowledge of disaster via continuing education, had experience on disaster rescue, received training on disaster skills and had working experience in the fever clinic or COVID-19 isolation ward. Conclusion: The level of disaster preparedness of mumber of nursing reserve team is considered as moderate in the Shanbei region, it is still necessary to offer systematic training on disaster knowledge and skills for nursing reserve team to strengthen their competence in dealing with sudden disasters.
