Development and application of Venous Thromboembolism prevention and control information platform

Abstract: Objective: To develop Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) prevention and control information platform and evaluate its application effects. Methods: The nursing department together with the medical quality management department and the information department jointly designed the VTE prevention and control information platform, which was composed of risk screening and evaluation module, hierarchical prevention knowledge base module, inspection quality control module and information reporting statistical analysis module. The application effect of the platform was evaluated by selected 10 departments in 2 hospital districts of a tertiary grade A hospital for 6 months. Results: After the test of the platform was completed, VTE risk evaluation accuracy and dynamic evaluation rate were improved (P<0.001). The waiting time for ultrasound examination and the prevention start time for medium and high-risk patients were shortened (P<0.001). Nurses' specialized knowledge of VTE was improved (P<0.001), and the incidence of VTE was decreased from 9.95‰ to 7.62‰ (P=0.006). Nurses' satisfaction for the platform was 90.00%. Conclusion: The platform could help timely and dynamically assess the risk of VTE, effectively implement the prevention measures, reduce VTE incidence, which is an effective tool platform for VTE nursing safety and quality management.
