The current situation and influencing factors of post graduate nursing students' informatics competency

Abstract: Objective: To examine the current informatics competency levels of post graduate nursing students and to identify the influencing factors of these competencies. Methods: The self-reported Nursing Informatics Competencies Scale (NICS) was used to investigate 92 postgraduate nursing students from 6 universities. Results: The informatics competency of these post graduate nursing students was under the moderate (2.89±0.57). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that grade, work or practice time, computer level, informatics-related education, and experience of using nursing informatics system were significant factors influencing competency levels. Conclusion: The informatics competency of these post graduate nursing students need to be improved. Nurse educators should set up proper nursing informatics curricula to improve their informatics competency.
