Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effects of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training on anxiety, depression and immune function in HIV-infected/AIDS patients. Methods: Ninety-six HIV-infected/AIDS patients admitted to hospital for infectious medicine were randomly divided into control group (48 cases) and intervention group (48 cases). The control group received routine care, and the intervention group received 8 weeks of MBSR training on the basis of the control group. Results: There was no significant difference in the Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), and CD4+T-lymphocyte counts between the two groups at baseline (P>0.05). 8 weeks after intervention and 6 months after intervention, the SAS and SDS scores of the intervention group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). The CD4+T lymphocyte count of the intervention group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: MBSR training can reduce anxiety and depression in HIV-infected/AIDS patients and improve their immune function.

Key words: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction; HIV-infected persons; AIDS patients; anxiety; depression; immune function
