Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the application effects of maxillofacial oral massage based on whole-process management model in nasopharyngeal carcinoma radiotherapy patients, in order to improve the quality of care for patients with radiotherapy related complications. Methods: Totally 221 patients with radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (111 cases in the experimental group , 110 cases in the control group) were selected for clinical application in the oncology department of a tertiary grade A military hospital in Chongqing from November 2020 to November 2021. The control group received routine radiotherapy care. Based on the combination of multiple disciplines and departments, the whole periradiotherapy management model of nasopharyngeal carcinoma based on maxillofacial oral massage technology was implemented in the experimental group with the help of a sand table model and led by specialist nurses. The self-care ability, incidence of severe radiation oral mucositis, incidence of severe radiation dermatitis and incidence of unplanned admission were compared between the two groups. Results: After 4 weeks radiotherapy, the self-care ability, the incidence of severe radiation oral mucositis, the incidence of severe radiation dermatitis, and the incidence of unplanned admission 0-14 days after radiotherapy statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: The whole-process management model based on maxillofacial oral massage technology led by specialist nurses can improve the self-care ability of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients during peri-radiotherapy, reduce the complications related to radiotherapy, and improve the quality of patient care.
