Abstract: Objective: To formulate the Long-term Care rating criteria in Suzhou through experts consultation, and then investigate the long-term care needs of 1205 elders in Suzhou using the criteria. Methods: Through 7 rounds of group meetings of 14 experts, the Long-term Care rating criteria in Suzhou (Revised) was finalized, which was then used to assess and analyze the long-term care needs of 1 205 elders living in 4 communities and 1 nursing institution by convenient sampling. Results: The care needs levels assessed by the rating criteria were in agreement with the actual situations of the 1 205 elders. Conclusion: The Long-term Care rating criteria is scientific, authoritative and applicable. It provides a scientific basis for the government to provide pension subsidies, allocate human resources rationally in the nursing institutions and implement long-term care insurance system.
