Abstract: Objective: To evaluate and summarize the evidence regarding the management of irrigation for permanent colostomy in adults, thereby providing evidence-based support and practical guidance for clinical practice of colostomy irrigation. Methods: Based on the '5S' model of evidence resources, a top-down systematic retrieval of evidence related to colostomy irrigation in Chinese and English databases from their inception to December 31, 2025 was conducted using both subject headings and textwords. Then the quality of the included literature was evaluated, and evidence was extracted and summarized. Results: A total of 12 articles were incorporated in this study, including one UpToDate clinical practice, 2 JBI evidence summarizes, 6 guidelines, one expert consensus, and 2 systematic reviews. Finally, 15 pieces of evidence were extracted covering 4 aspects, including pre-irrigation preparation, irrigation procedure, post-irrigation management, and health education and follow-up. Conclusion: This study summarizes 15 pieces of evidence on colostomy irrigation. These findings may promote the correct and effective application of colostomy irrigation by clinical healthcare professionals and patients with permanent colostomy, including helping patients establish regular defecation habits, achieving self-management of excretion to ultimately improve their psychological well-being and quality of life.
