Abstract: Objective: To explore the effects of a smartphone app-based parent-reported outcomes in the self-management of children with asthma. Methods: From November 2020 to December 2021, 118 asthmatic children with their caregivers who visited a children's hospital in Wuxi, Jiangsu province were selected as the study objects. They were divided evenly into the two groups using a random number table. The control group received routine diagnosis and treatment, nursing guidance, health education and consultation conducted through WeChat and Tencent conferences. The experimental group received the parent-reported outcome-based intervention protocol using a smartphone APP. The childhood asthma control test (C-ACT) scores, asthma control status, and parent-reported outcome scale scores of the two groups were compared before and after the interventions. Results: After three months of intervention, the total score of C-ACT and parent-reported outcome scale scores in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group. Besides, patients in the experimental group were observed to have better asthma control than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The smartphone app for parent-reported outcomes in the self-management of children with asthma is conducive to improving asthma control and patients' self-management ability.
