Abstract: Objective: To cross-culturally adapt the Nursing Student Safety Attitudes and Professionalism Survey and evaluate its validity and reliability. Methods: The Medical Student Safety Attitudes and Professionalism Survey (MSSAPS) was translated into Chinese, back translated and culturally modified, then was revised through Delphi Method. Finally the psychometric characteristics of the questionnaire were tested among 494 nursing students from 24 medical schools.Results: The questionnaire included 33 items belonging to 6 dimensions which were safety culture, teamwork culture, error disclosure culture, experiences with professionalism, comfort expressing professional concerns and safety behavioral intent.The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.911 for the whole questionnaire and 0.831~0.908 for the dimensions; the test-retest reliability was 0.819. The average of S-CVI was 0.954, I-CVI/Ave were 0.883~1.000; five factors were extracted by a factor analysis using principal components analysis and varimax rotation method, which explained 61.528% of the total variance and were in accordance with the original scale. Conclusion: The Chinese version of Nursing Student Safety Attitudes and Professionalism Survey is a reliable and valid instrument to assess the patient safety attitudes and professionalism of Chinese nursing students.
