Abstract: Objective: To explore postoperative catheterization time, removal of the catheter, first voiding after catheter removal and the influence factors in patients with spinal surgery. Methods: Using convenience sampling method, 124 spinal fracture surgery patients were selected from May 2010 to May 2014 for medical record review. Their demographic data, medical advice and nursing care items were collected, and then patients' first urination and influence factors were analyzed. Results:Seventy four cases (59.7%) patients urinated successfully after catheter removal before they left hospital; the average first voiding time was (5.28±1.96)h. Five factors, including emotional status, ADL score, catheterization time, age and first urine output with, could explain 57.8% variation of the postoperative first voiding time after urinary catheter removal. Conclusion: Postoperative spinal fractures patients with higher ADL score (worse self-care ability), anxiety, older, longer catheterization and less first urine output, may suffer longer first voiding time after catheter removal.
