Abstract: Objective: To explore the way that pain nurse specialists manage the continuous subcutaneous injection of morphine for patients in hospitals. Methods: The pain nurse specialists assessed 40 advanced cancer patients with severe pain, participated in the development of pain management plans, filled in assessment tables, administered subcutaneous injections and delivered pain manage. Results: Three to 5 days after the continuous subcutaneous injection of morphine, the rest pain and motion pain scores were both below 3 for all patients. The pain remission rate was 100%. No nursing errors occurred. The satisfaction rates of patients, physicians and nurses were all above 96%. Conclusion: The involvement of pain nurse specialists in the continuous subcutaneous injection of morphine for patients in hospital was effective and safe. It could reduce physicians' workload, and increase physicians' and nurses' satisfaction rate.
