Abstract: Objective: To describe the characteristics of the nursingwork environment, in order to improve it.Methods:Descriptive study with 5234 nurses in five hospitals in mid-east region of China, conducted through Nursing Work Index - Revised. Results:The mean score of Nursing Work Index - Revised was 74.77±22.57. Policies and procedures received the highest mean score, and participation of hospital affairs got the lowest score. Conclusion: It is important to encourage nurses’ participation in hospital affairs and increase their salaries, in order topromote work environment and improve the quality of nursing.
