Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the evidence of associations between self-acceptance and mental health of plastic surgery patients. Methods: Totally 510 plastic surgery patients in a 3A hospital in Beijing were recruited by convenience sampling method. They were investigated using The Self Acceptance Questionnaire (SAQ) and The Mental Health Scale of plastic surgery patients. Results: The average score of self-acceptance was (2.71±0.35). The total score of mental health was(1.41±0.54), in which the subscale of appearance concern got the highest score (1.92±0.60). Hierarchical regression analysis showed that emotional disturbance and body image inferiority were significantly associated with self-acceptance, which explained 33.4% of the total variance. Significance was also seen for self-evaluation and self-acceptance with mental health,which explained 27.0% of the total variance. Conclusion: The level of self-acceptance and mental health of plastic surgery clients was in moderate level. Over-concern to the appearance is the main mental problem. Self-acceptance was associated with plastic surgery clients' mental health status.
