Abstract: Objective: To assess the effect of supervised intervention in diabetic patients with periodontal disease on oral health and blood glucose level. Methods: A total of 64 cases of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and periodontal disease were included in this study, and accepted the supervision of oral health intervention program. Their oral health knowledge, behavior, periodontal index and blood glucose control status were evaluated at base line, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after the intervention. Results: Their periodontal status improved significantly after the supervised oral health intervention. The incidence of bleeding related to dental probing and dental calculus were lower than those at baseline.Patients' fasting blood glucose, 2-hour postprandial blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin level reduced as compared with baseline. Conclusion: Implementing supervision of oral health intervention in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and periodontal disease could improve the patient's periodontal condition and blood glucose control.
