Abstract: Objective: To investigate the level and influencing factors of self-efficacy for symptom management in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods: A convenience sample of 127 patients were investigated with Hemodialysis Knowledge Questionnaire, Self-efficacy for Symptom Management Scale (SESMs), and Social Support Scale (SSS). Results: The mean score of SESMs was 6.88±2.36, which was at low to moderate level. Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the main influencing factors of self-efficacy for symptom management were hemodialysis knowledge level (β=0.767, P<0.001), social support level (β=0.086, P=0.003), education level (β=0.068, P=0.005), and dialysis frequency (β=0.039, P=0.019). Conclusion:The maintenance hemodialysis patients' self-efficacy for symptom management was at low to moderate level. Improving patients' hemodialysis knowledge, enhancing social support system and dealing with the other influencing factors may improve the patients' self-efficacy for symptom management.
