Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of group reminiscence on geriatric depression patients. Methods:Published and unpublished RCT and quasi-RCT that assessed the effects of group reminiscence for geriatric depression patients were systematically reviewed using multiple electronic databases. Relative risks for dichotomous data and a weighted mean difference for continuous data were calculated with 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of ten trials were included. The results of Meta-analysis showed: Compared with the control group, the intervention of group reminiscence could significantly relive the symptoms of depression at the end of the invention and three months after the invention (P<0.01), but the advantage disappeared six months after the invention (P=0.14). The intervention of group reminiscence could significantly improve selfesteem and life satisfaction (P<0.01). Conclusion: Group reminiscence is associated with short-term effects of depression relief among geriatric depression patients and the intervention of group reminiscence is more effective in improving self-esteem and life satisfaction. However, large-scale randomized controlled trials of higher quality are needed to confirm this.
