Abstract: Objective: To explore British nurses' attitudes towards older people, to establish an attitudinal model, and to provide evidence and references for further intervention. Method: Totally 730 certificated nurses who took part in continuing professional education courses in a large university in London, UK were recruited and investigated of the nurses' demographic data, preference to work with older patients, aging knowledge, and attitudes towards older people, et al. Results: Overall 580 effective questionnaires were returned. The variables included in the model could explain 43.6% of the variance of the attitudes, including aging anxiety, attitudes toward healthcare resources allocation among elders, aging knowledge, ethnicity, preference to work with older people, and interaction between education and age. Conclusion: The included variables could explain the variance of the attitude very well. The findings indicate that we should set up intervention guidelines and incorporate aging knowledge into courses of colleges and educational institutes. This study outlines the importance of intervention which has great significance for older people.
