Meta-integration of studies on self-dietary management in hemodialysis patients

Abstract: Objective: To systematically evaluate and integrate the findings of qualitative studies of dietary management experience in hemodialysis patients, in order to provide references for targeted dietary interventions for hemodialysis patients. Methods: The qualitative studies related to dietary management in hemodialysis patients from CNKI, VIP, Wan Fang Date, CMB, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library were searched from inception to October 2021. The quality evaluation and data extraction were carried out, and meta-aggregation and integration method was used to interpret and summarize the data. Results: A total of 11 articles were included, 63 results were extracted and summarized into 10 categories, and 4 integrated results were obtained, including patients' attitudes towards dietary management, the effect of dietary management on patients, patient needs and changes needed, challenges of dietary management. Conclusion: The dietary management affects the hemodialysis patients in their bodies and minds, daily and social life and so on, and there are many challenges for patients in the dietary management. More attention should paid to the process of dietary management, and more targeted professional supports are expected to help patients to improve the effectiveness of diet management.
