Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effect of Motivational Interviewing on the functional training in postoperative patients with the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Methods: Totally 106 patients with the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, who were treated by the same doctor, were divided into two groups. The patients in the control group received the routine functional training education intervention of the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery; while patients in the experimental group received 4 times motivational Interviewing intervention. GSES, the knee evaluation scale of Lysholm and the functional training compliance were measured before and after intervention at three moments: three days, a week, and one month after the surgery. Results: There were no significant different between two groups in the scores of GSES, the Lysholm score of knee and the functional training compliance after the surgery at 3 days (P>0.05). The GSES and the functional training compliance of the experimental group was improved significantly than that of control group after the surgery at 7 days (P<0.05). The GSES, the Lysholm score of knee and the functional training compliance of the patients of experimental group were significantly improved than those of control group after the surgery at 1 month (P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared to routine education, the motivational Interviewing may improve the GSES, the Lysholm score of knee and the functional training compliance in postoperative patients with the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction more effectively.
