Abstract: Cancer is a serious threat to human survival and social development. There is a rising trend of incidence and mortality of cancer. The plan for a Healthy China 2030 required us to make efforts to build a healthy China by providing people with life-span health services. It has been confirmed by many foreign studies that dignity-conserving care makes a great contribution to end-of-life patients suffering from symptoms due to incurable diseases and death threats. It can help them to release psychological distress, optimize meanings of life as well as improve quality of life. However, research on dignity-conserving care for terminally cancer patients is at its initial stage in China. This review aimed to explore nursing literature and research on dignity-conserving care of terminally cancer patients and to analyze the issues of its origin, values, interventions and challenges systematically, in order to call for more attention to the dignity-conserving care for terminally cancer patients and provide evidences for Chinese health care professionals.
