Abstract: Dignity therapy is an individualized psychotherapy whose aim is to bolster the sense of meaning and dignity, and reduce distress in patients with terminal disease. It includes a recorded interview facilitated by a trained healthcare provider following the dignity therapy questions framework. In the interview, patients are invited to talk about their life experience, and share their feelings, emotions and wisdoms. The interview is finally transcribed, edited and then returned to the patients to bequeath it to their loved ones, which can relieve family suffering and serve as a comfort during bereavement. Besides bringing in the basic concepts and model, cultural adaptation of dignity therapy is needed before applying it into hospice care practice in China.
