Abstract: Objective: To study the impact of maintaining duration of sleep after night shifts to sleep quality of pediatric ICU nurses. Methods: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to investigate 109 pediatric ICU nurses to assess the effect of the intervention that maintaing duration of sleep after night shifts.Results: Before the intervention, the score of PSQI of pediatric ICU nurses was (7.79±1.43), 60.73% of the pediatric ICU nurses had sleep disturbance. There were statistically significant differences in duration of sleep, sleep quality and total score comparing with nurses of pediatrics ward (P<0.01). One year after implementing the intervention, the scores of each subscales of PSQI were lowered than baseline, except for sleep efficiency (P>0.05). Conclusion: The sleep quality of pediatric ICU nurses was poorer than pediatrics ward nurses. Maintaining the duration of sleep after night shift can improve their sleep quality.
